The Mac Pro Performance Gap
Now that the performance gap between the mid-range Mac Pro and high-end iMac is so close you might ask why anyone would pay the premium price for Apple's workstation class computer without a display?
The answer is in the expandability. The Mac Pro can accommodate over 12 processors, 64GBs of memory, 4 full-size hard drives, 4 full-length PCIe cards, and two optical drives. Working professionals who need these accommodations will pay any price to get them, and it doesn't matter that the current Mac Pro is over one year old.
Apple's tower computers are no longer interesting to iPad toting consumers like myself. They no longer get the newest technology first, and few people have a reason to buy one. While the rest of us are happy driving our automobiles and pickup trucks, Apple will continue shipping oversized dump trucks like the Mac Pro for the professionals who need them most.
